PARTY BEN RESUMES MAKING MASHUPS;
APOCALYPSE ENSUES

Whoopsie doodle.
You know, it had been easy to forget, esconced as we were in the relative sanity of the Obama era, that my mashup "heydey" (such as it was) was pretty much entirely contained within the 8 years of the George W. Bush administration. (This in fact informed my work in some ways, for instance the multiple Sixx Mixx episodes that mocked or protested the administration and of course the Dean Grey album which, to me and Team9, tried to elucidate and extend the Green Day original's anti-Bush theme). So, when Adrian and Mysterious D asked me to play a "comeback" set at the Bootie 13-year (!) anniversary party in August of this year, I dove into making some goofy new mashups for the set without regard to the possible consequences. While I included them in my set on August 20 with little consequence, one day after these mashups were posted over at the Bootie site, 100,000-ish strategically-located voters decided they'd had enough of, you know, winters and facts and whatever, and voted for a gargling pumpkin monster for president. Coincidence? One wonders.

Anyway, before the electricity goes off and/or my brain gets fried by the Pence De-gay-ifier™, go download these dumb things over at BootieMashup.com. They include:

Bootie

Can’t Feel My Body (Escort vs. The Weeknd)

Marshmello Starships (Marshmello vs. Nicki Minaj)

One Dance Away (Drake vs. Jade)

Same Old Guns (The Clash vs. Selena Gomez)

Shut Up Fluxx Magnets (Cube Guys vs. Walk the Moon vs. Disclosure vs. A-Trak)

Upside Down Feeling (Donna Summer vs. Justin Timberlake)

Watch Out for Women (Major Lazer vs. Destiny’s Child)

We Are This Girl (Kungs vs. Kesha)

I'd say most met with a resounding "meh" at the actual event other than the Marshmello thing. Anyway, whatever, we're all going to die.

In other news, please follow me over on Mixcloud where I'm now posting longer sets, mostly in the house/chill zone as well as sneaking tests of some originals in now and then.

NEW REMIX, SIXX MIXXES KEEP ON MIXXING,
PLUS I WORK AT PANDORA NOW

Bow down to me, internet.
Oh, partyben.com, you're such a terrible web site, a vestige of a time when I was desperate for some internet archive of my radio nonsense so I wouldn't have to spend my evenings sending CDs of the Sixx Mixx to people who e-mailed me at LIVE 105 (I used to do that!), and also a place to post my musings about the events of the day, or perhaps combat what at the time seemed like a conspiratorial epidemic of press inaccuracies about me and my work which I now realize was just people being dumb (we call it "trolling" now). But in any event, it's a clunky pile of ancient Dreamweaver code and a real annoyance to update, and I can't be bothered to figure out Wordpress or whatever, so we're stuck with it. The main side effect of all this, and my point here, is that sometimes news shows up on this internet location a bit late. So, let's see, what's happened over the last year!

Most recently, me and my musical pall MyKill made a bit of a throwaway remix of an old Lindsey Buckingham track we both love. It's here, for now:

Trouble

Lindsey Buckingham - Trouble (Party Ben & MyKill Remix)

Download: 14MB 256kbps mp3

It seems to be getting some love from tropical house type zones, so, hooray for accidentally being trendy.

Also, if Sixx Mixxes are a thing you care about, I'm almost caught up to the 10-year-old ones over on the Sixx Mixx Remasters page. As history tells us, the show ended on December 30, 2011, so we've only got about 20 more episodes left before this whole nostalgia-fest ends. Get on board, Earth!

Sixx Mixx RemastersAnd finally, attention-payers to my social media sites may already be aware that I'm now an employee of Pandora Internet Radio Conern. In May I accepted the Head of Programming of Dance and Electronic position, in charge of bringing in new tunes, doing their genre stations, plus other stuff like continually giving a hard time to my cubicle-mate J Boogie. I had been at Slacker Radio doing similar work for the past couple years (I actually started working on stations for them back in 2007) so, no more of that, but I really enjoyed working there and wish everybody well. (The aforementioned MyKill in fact has taken over a couple of the stations I used to program, so, again, take that, internet). Now, though, please go over to the Pandora Dance and Electronic zone and try out some stations if you want. I've made a big effort to update and tidy up stations like Deep House, Tropical House, and even Trance, and there are new stations including a Pandora version of Indie Electronic as well as a Pop Remixes if that's your thing. More to come.

Sixx MixxSIXX MIXX REMASTER PROJECT CONTINUES, WORLD REMAINS BLISSFULLY UNAWARE

How I envy them.
We're now a year into my updates of remastered Sixx Mixxez, which have more or less followed the 10 year anniversaries of their original airings. Episodes #52 and 53 were just posted over on the Sixx Mixx page (complete with external download links thanks to complaints that the direct downloads were spotty). Go to the special page! It's special!

SIXX MIXX - 10TH ANNIVERSARY REMASTERS

The shows are to the point where they're somewhat better than the awkward first few months, so that's good, but there's still a hell of a lot of "Seven Nation Army" and that UNKLE remix of Queens of the Stone Age. Ah, ten years ago! It was so 2004-y!

SLIGHTLY BELATED HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, SIXX MIXX!

Sixx Mixx RemastersClearly unenthusiastic thank you.
Well it's hard to believe, or maybe not, but either way, the Sixx Mixx, my LIVE 105 radio show that formed such an integral part of my own creative career, such as it is, began just over 10 years ago. Well, 10 years and a month or so. I had the idea to start remastering and rereleasing the shows a while ago, and did indeed want to time it to the anniversary, but I was in the midst of moving to a new apartment and also I'm lazy and don't really care. So, I figure, a month late isn't so bad.

But yes, I'll be attempting to remaster and post nice 320-style mp3s of each and every show, one per week, or so. In the event I saved the on-air feed of the program, I'll be using that file, but if not, I'll be posting the original. All of this will be happening over on the newly created Sixx Mixx page.

SIXX MIXX - 10TH ANNIVERSARY REMASTERS

Over there you'll find a download link and a player, the tracklisting, delightful new artwork, and commentary about the creation of that episode, behind-the-scenes tidbits, and excuses for why it sucks, as well as a Party Ben Scientific Sixx Mixx Rating which will serve as a guide to how that edition actually stacks up in the grand scheme of things.

So head on over where Episode 001, originally aired Friday 6/27/2003, is posted for your enjoyment, although as I describe, it's pretty terrible. But better ones are coming!

NEW REMIX ALBUM; FIRST PARTY BEN THING TO BUY FOR DOLLARS; UPCOMING GIGS, AND СПАСИБО РОССИЯ

Пожалуйста.
After a bit of a "summer off" (not that you'd notice) Party Ben Information systems is ramped back up to full speed of one post every six months. But this is a good one, I promise. Firstly, there's an "album" being "released":

Party Ben & MyKill

Party Ben & MyKill - Remixes 2012

My frequent remix collaborator, DJ chum, and synchornized swimming partner ("you, you, I know you!") MyKill and I have collected our various remixes over the last year or so and zipped them up into a nice clean zip folder for your convenience. The album features some stuff you know (and love!) including our Fun. and Youngblood Hawke collaborations, my DJ Shadow, Geographer and K.Flay reworks and MyKill's Midi Matilda and AB & the Sea remixes. as well as a few unreleased goodies.

Go to the special page over here to learn more and download it.

While that is indeed available for zero dollars money, you can, in fact, now, for the first time ever, pay real hard currency for a Party Ben thing (other than a shitty T-shirt). Let's learn more in another grey box:

Lyrics Born Remixes

Lyrics Born - "Coulda Woulda Shoulda" (Party Ben Remix)

Yes, I finally have an official release, thanks to Lyrics Born and the fine folks at Decon. They've put together an EP of a bunch of remixes of tracks from Mr. Born's most recent album As U Were, including work from Trackademicks, Mocean Worker, Amplive and Yultron. My bouncy version of "Coulda Woulda Shoulda" also made the cut, and it can be yours for the low low price of $1.29. Mad respect to the awesome and always inspiringly positive LB (just try following his Twitter feed, it makes Deepak Choprah look like Emo Phillips).

Party BenAnd finally, big thanks to everybody who came out to see me DJ in Russia where I played two dates, one at MonicaBellucci in Vladimir and another at the esteemed Gipsy in Moscow. The latter especially was one of my more fun gigs of recent times (check out a quick video my buddy Nikita took of me playing some Redlight for appreciative dancers here) and plus it's always fun to smoke hookahs while you DJ. Hooray, anarchy.

I've got a few fun upcoming gigs to talk about, including an appearance with my partner in up-and-coming* duo Orson Belles, Miles the DJ, we'll be headlining (!) Creep Show on Treasure Island this Saturday 10/20. After that I'm at Moogfest in Asheville, North Carolina, where I'll be covering the festival for sponsor Slacker Radio (check out our event station here). Then I'll be doing a benefit for the most awesome San Francisco Bicycle Coalition on Friday November 9th but I can't remember where that is. Stay tuned. Derp.

*not actually up-and-coming

WEB SITE NEGLECTED

No-one notices.
Hope you've been following me over on Soundcloud, Facebook and Twitter; if you are, you're probably up to date on any news I might have posted here. But let's review: I came in 3rd on the DJ Shadow remix contest (thanks Josh!), returned to the LIVE 105 airwaves, talked about remixes at WMC, and made a bunch of new tracks and junk.
